About the Investigation Process

The investigation of a criminal offense is one of the most critical police functions. The detective's main objective is to gather information that will successfully identify, apprehend, and prosecute a criminal offender. The Bureau works closely with the Patrol Division and also collaborates with the Allen County Prosecutors, FBI, US Postal Inspection Service, and others. The Bureau prepares and delivers evidence to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation (BCI). The Bureau also obtains and executes search warrants, and prepares cases for trial in Allen County Court of Common Pleas.

The Bureau has investigated, charged and obtained convictions for murder, arson, child pornography, sex crimes, burglary, grand theft, identity fraud, and financial crimes.
