[ARCHIVED] Public Works Media Release

The City of Lima Public Works Department announces that the ALL-LIMA Traffic Study Phase I construction is nearing completion. This project converts one-way traffic on Elm Street from McDonel to Central, and one-way traffic on Spring Street from Jameson to Central to two-way traffic the first part of September. Construction crews are now completing curb installation on Spring Street and portions of Elm Street, sidewalk replacement, base repair, and are resurfacing portions of pavement in the construction areas described. Signage has been erected advising motorists that one-way traffic patterns will be modified to two-way traffic in early September. The conversion of one-way to two-way traffic is slated for September 3rd. Should there be any modifications of that date, updated media releases will be issued.

A system of shared travel lanes for cyclists and motor vehicles will be established on Spring Street from Main Street to Jameson. The community will find markings on the pavement depicting a bicycle with chevrons above it denoting users can expect motor vehicles and cyclists to be sharing the lane; sharrows are consistent with State and Federal Standards. Parking on one side of Spring Street will be maintained. The sharrow lanes are consistent with the overall Lima Bike Trail and Bike Route plan. The plan that was adopted in 2010 calls for a system of bike trials, bike routes and shared lanes to create a more bike friendly community.
