Design Review Board

The Lima Design Review Board was established through ordinance #141-01 (Chapter 1409) passed by Lima City Council on September 24, 2001 and revised October 20, 2003 with the following purpose:

"To maintain and enhance the distinctive and aesthetic character of the buildings, landmarks, and historic areas in downtown Lima;

To safeguard the architectural integrity of the downtown Lima properties listed or eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places, and other historic resources within this district;

To seek alternatives to demolition or incompatible alterations within downtown Lima prior to the performance of such acts;

To encourage economic development activities that are compatible with and enhance the historic character of the properties within downtown Lima;

To strengthen the economy of the City of Lima by stimulating reinvestment, which will thereby stabilize and improve the district's property values."

To achieve these goals, the Design Review Board has been authorized to evaluate any proposed alteration to properties within the Design Review District.
