Lima Fire Department Structure                                            New Employees


Chief Mark Heffner

Chief Mark Heffner was born and raised in Lima, and was the fifth of six family members to enter the fire service when he joined the Lima Fire Department in 1985. Promoted to Chief in May, 2008, Chief Heffner has made the Safety of firefighters and civilians his first priority, followed closely by Service to the public and Efficiency in the use of the resources that have been generously provided by the taxpayers.

Chief Heffner and his wife Barb reside in Lima and are the parents of two children, Michelle, a microbiologist  and Jeremy, a surgeon.

Areas of Responsibility
A” Shift Fire Suppression, Hazardous Materials and Vehicle acquisition.


Assistant Chief Dave McDermitt

Assistant Chief David McDermitt was appointed to the Lima Fire Department on July 11, 1983. In 1990 he was promoted to Lieutenant, Captain in 1993, Platoon Chief in 2000, and Assistant Chief in 2005.

He and his wife Tracy have two children.

  Areas of Responsibility
“B” Shift Fire Suppression, Fire Suppression Personnel, 40-hour Personnel and LFD Radios.


Assistant Chief Greg Kirkendall

Assistant Chief Greg Kirkendall was appointed to the Fire Department on August 19, 1989.  In 1996 he was promoted to Lieutenant , Captain in 1998, Platoon Chief in 2004, and Assistant Chief in 2008.  He is a 1987 graduate of Waynesfield-Goshen high school and graduated with an Associates Degree from Lima Technical college in 1989.  He served six years in the Ohio Army National Guard. He and his wife Chris have two children.

Areas of Responsibility
“C” Shift Fire Suppression, EMS, Dispatching and Coordination with LPD.
