Ottawa River
Corridor bikepath and park system.
Located in the 1500 block of Ellison Drive,
Baxter Park is a natural refuge located
in one of Lima's residential areas. The mature shade trees provide a
great atmosphere for lunch time stopovers.
Tennis and softball dominate the
Collett Street Recreation Area. This
20 acre site includes eight lighted tennis courts and a lighted ball
diamond. Access to the Ottawa River Bikeway provides walking, biking,
skating and jogging opportunities over a five mile network of paved
paths. Located across the street from
Hover Park, 800 block of S. Collett St, where passive recreation is paramount, the Collett Street
Recreation area provides something for everyone.
One of Lima's smallest parks,
Kibby Corners Park is located in a near
downtown location in the 700 block of S. Main Street. The park has a
small shelter house and a small mulit-purpose area, along with LIL-TOT-LOT
play equipment.
Faurot
Park
: Originally known as the
Lake
Subdivision
was received as a gift on February 4, 1904 and at that time was called
City
Park
. The Faurot Park Addition was acquired as a gift on September 12, 1935.
The consolidated 86-acre tract was then named after the original
discoverer of oil in
Lima
(Benjamin Faurot) who died a poor man although he contributed greatly to
the wealth of others. During the early days of
Faurot
Park
there was in fact a zoo on the grounds. The zoo housed several animals
including bears. Present day
Faurot Park is 89 acres of green space which includes 7 ball diamonds, 4
shelter houses, 4 lakes, a concert pavilion, a playground area, the
children’s fountain/splash pad and is home to the Annual Star Spangled
Spectacular.
Originally intended for development as a professional baseball park,
26 acre
Robb Park now provides a perfect place for many athletic
programs such as softball, soccer, tennis, and midget league football.
Five ball diamonds, two tennis courts, and open areas more than provide
for the leisure time athlete. Play equipment is available for the
children and a
picnic shelter is a great place for a family get-together after the
game. The park is located between the 500 to 1000 block of West Robb
Avenue.
If railroads are your hobby, then
Lincoln Park is for you. The last
steam
locomotive built in Lima is on display here along with a replica of
a train depot. In addition, you'll find
two picnic
shelters, play equipment, horseshoe courts, and a multi-purpose area
for tennis or basketball. Lincoln Park is located at Bellefontaine
Avenue and East Elm Street.
Cook Park offers two ball diamonds, and open space for football or
soccer and a multi-purpose court. This 8 acre park lends itself well to
the neighborhood pick-up game as well as organized programs. Cook Park
is located at Michael and Pine Streets.
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Center Park is a 40 acre facility located
on the city's south side which includes a ball diamond,
picnic shelter,
a fishing lake, play equipment, and two multi-purpose areas with
basketball courts. Large open spaces provide a place for football,
soccer, or kite flying. Martin Luther King, Jr. Center Park is located
in the 400 block of E. Eighth St.
