The Water Distribution Division is responsible for providing
continuous, high quality water of sufficient volume and pressure
to nearly 24,000 accounts.
The 33 employees in this Division maintain more than 360 miles
of water main consisting of many sizes and types of materials. The
area served by the distribution system includes not only the City
of Lima, but also a growing area in Allen county. Currently, the
area being served covers 100 sq. miles. This division also
installs and repairs hundreds of service lines each year. All
water meters are read monthly by meter readers from this division,
using state-of-the-art technology that provides accurate and
timely readings for our customers.
In addition to maintaining water mains, individual services and
meters, Water Distribution also installs and maintains more than
1,100 fire hydrants within the City of Lima. Inspections, testing
and related map work is performed by the division's forces for new
subdivisions or other new water projects. The division's mechanics
provide maintenance services for the division as well as many
other vehicles throughout the Utilities Department. Support for
other divisions and departments of the City is provided by
specialized equipment and personnel. Customer service functions
are performed by division representatives during business hours as
well as after hours on an emergency call basis.
